NWALAN LAN party Rules

Fees for the LAN

The new LAN fee is $10 for preregistered gamer and $12 for unregistered (must register by 10 p.m. February 27, 2009).

LAN staff will get in for no charge.

If by some miracle the LAN makes money those funds will be used to pay for the next LAN and to purchase equipment and perhaps prizes.

What  we will provide at the LAN party

1) a network connection (of course)

2) A power strip to plug your Surge protector into. Everyone should bring a surge protector to the LAN as part of their computer equipment, we have to know how many computers are on each circuit and if people "daisy chain" their surge protectors we WILL blow a breaker and be screwed (because we don't have access to the breaker box).  If you are found to have your surge protector daisy chained you will be asked to immediately shut your computer down and plug it in properly, if you don't you will be made to leave the LAN.

3) Some sort of snack (probably cheese dip and chips)

4) As for food I can schedule a pizza run for around 7 p.m. and take cash from people interested. Becca has gotten us pizza before and that went over ok.

Prizes

As you know we usually have door prizes at the LAN, These prizes are donated by our generous sponsors and we usually have enough for everyone but this might not always be true. The prize rules are as follows:

1) Prizes will be handed out at about 10 p.m.

2) You must be present to win (unless you have made some sort of arrangement with me)

3) You must have your picture taken with your prize (this is for our sponsors)

4) If there are any "leftover" prizes they will be put away and given out at a future LAN (a LAN where we are a little skimpy on prizes)

Staff

The staff at every LAN party work hard to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible and should be accorded respect.  I will occasionally rotate staff so that I have a lot of trained people to help in case a staff member can't make it to a LAN. This also insures someone doesn't get burned out and other people get a chance to get in for free.  I will ask people if they want to be staff at a LAN or occasionally post a request for volunteers. I will only allow someone to be staff if I believe they are mature and responsible  enough for the job.

1) If a staff member asks you to do something don't argue, there is a reason for it.

2) If you have a problem with a staff member you can talk to me about it.

3) Certain staff members have certain jobs; make sure you are asking the correct staff member your question.

4) Staff for each LAN will be announced both in a LAN email and on the forums.

The Power Situation

As you may know our venue doesn't have too many circuits, since we don't have access to the breaker box this requires us to be very, very careful. We should be ok as long as we take some precautions and adhere to a few rules;

1) Only plug your surge protector into an approved power strip. We will be laying out extension cords with power strips for you to plug your surge protector into. The assures us we know how many computers are using each circuit.

2) Only 1 computer per surge protector. I should be able to look at a power strip and count the plugs to determine how many computers are pulling on that circuit.

3)  No daisy chaining I have already mentioned this once, if you can't find a place to plug in then ask me or another staff member.

Servers

There will be at least one server at each LAN party and there should be 2 different games running at all times (even if I have to use my computer to serve).  If we have everyone starting their own servers at the LAN things get confusing and there are fewer people playing the same game (or knowing what games are being played).

1) Only official LAN servers allowed.  At every LAN we will have a designated "anything goes" time where everyone is allowed to run their own server but until then don't start your own servers.

2) EXCEPTION:  If everyone is playing Joint Ops and CoD and you and a couple of friends want to play Need for Speed because you hate the other games or don't have them installed you need to come to me and tell me what you want to do. We are going to try and have a marker board with servers listed at the LAN and if I don't have a problem with it I will post your server with the rest and you could pick up some more players.

Why this rule?

An example:

Bill is sitting by George and Mike, Everyone else at the LAN is playing UT 2004 but George wants to play CoD so he starts up a server and Mike and a few others join it.  Bill has been installing UT 2004 because he really wants to play it but looks over and sees George and Mike playing CoD, Thinking that everyone is finished playing UT 2004 Bill starts up CoD and joins the server.  Bill doesn't realize that most of the peeps are playing UT 2004 and after the LAN he comes up to me and mourns the fact that he missed out, later he tells everyone he knows that there were only a few people in each game and it's not worthwhile to attend a LAN party.  I have had people  at LANs that were in a server with just a few people the entire LAN because of "listen" servers that other people were running. I am all for variety but I want some order.

3) If you are running your own server you will be asked to shut it down immediately or you will be made to leave the LAN.

File Transfers

We will have at least an hour and a half "breaktime" about 7 p.m. for lunch/dinner each LAN I would ask you to use that time and the "anything goes" part of the LAN to leech files (especially LARGE files).

The Rest

If you have any problems at the LAN please let me or a staff member know!, we can't help you if we don't know there is a problem! I have had people sit out half a LAN because they couldn't connect to the network and didn't tell me.

 1) Event staff have the final say in all matters and reserve the right to remove anyone from the premises.

2) No speakers. Bring headphones if you want sound.

3) Obey LAN and Hotel rules as well as state/federal laws. This includes but is not limited to, no alcohol, no smoking in buildings, no stealing, etc....

4) If you break it you buy it. So be careful.

5) No cheating. This includes bots, hacks, or anything else. Please don't make us enforce this one, cheating is for lamers.

6) Do not disrupt other players while they are playing or use their equipment without permission.

7) Do not disrupt gameplay in any way. This includes server attacks, viruses, or just being annoying. This is especially important during the tournaments.

Cool No-one under 17 will be admitted without parental consent. We play mature games which are illegal for minors to possess without a guardian's permission. The Parental consent form is attached at the bottom on this post.

9) The LAN party organizers are not responsible for anything that might happen to you or your equipment. You are.

10) Have fun and be friendly. Remember we are here to meet new people and have a good time
